Watchfulness for the wrath coming against those choosing darkness was merely the foundation, the basic level of awareness. What Paul really called for was positive, in-the-light, living by all “sons of light.” Here we have almost a check-list of attitudes and foci for survival when God’s wrath against the dark-dwellers was poured out: attitudes toward their leaders and toward each other; attitudes toward life’s events; attitudes toward the spoken word. Each of these gets the spotlight under Paul’s pen.
Finally, Paul highlights God’s protective care for those who willingly walk in the light.
