Gal. 4a: Released from slavery—on Probing the Prophets with Rod
/
The “Short Pitch” comment above may sound ridiculous, even blasphemous, on the surface. But deeper consideration—like Paul’s thoughts in Gal. 4—show that it is true!

As Paul said of “us Jews”; they were held in bondage under elemental things (v. 3). That is, until the promised “adoption as sons” was fulfilled in them by the Spriit.

In the same way, Gentiles were also slaves to those which by nature are no gods (idols, v. 8). But they also had come to be known by God (i.e., released from the bondage of ignorant idolatry into family relationship with the Living God)).

But here comes the rub–again. Gentile Christians were substituting their former enslavement for the enslavement of the Jews–festival observance and circumcision. They were “piercing their ears” to a new, harsh master–The Law! Maybe Paul’s efforts in bringing them to Jesus had been for nothing.

All heresies grow with the instigation of unstudied men. Choices must be made: follow my teaching or theirs. This was then and is today the ultimatum that leads out of slavery.
