(Worthy News) – As Christians in Ukraine look to Jesus amid the Russian invasion launched on Thursday, the Kyiv Theological Seminary has called on believers around the world to pray for the country and for the Ukrainian church, Christian Headlines (CH) reports.

Residents of Kyiv have had to rush for shelter in the subway and in bomb shelters, and the capital’s Theological Seminary has been helping its students and staff to “pack” and “prepare the groceries they need,” CH reports.

In a Facebook post, the seminary wrote: “Collect the necessary things to go to the shelter at the right time … Let not fear control us. … Let us trust in the Lord, do not panic.” Moreover, the seminary added, quoting Isaiah 41: “Remember how many times God in His Word says ‘don’t be afraid.’ “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Calling for prayer, the seminary named three specific requests: 1) “for Ukraine,” 2) “for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” 3) and that the “enemy” will “stop his crimes” and “be defeated” so that “the church in Ukraine … can serve the society,” CH reports.

In a separate video message, President of the Ukrainian Baptist Union Valery Antonyuk referred to Psalm 23 and made his own request for believers around the world to pray. “[Prayer is] our weapon in times of war,” Antonyuk said.
